3 years ago I started a Bookstagram account with my bff Laura to share all the books we're reading (check it out here!).
Starting that account opened a world of friends to me. Which led me to my in-real-life book club. This led me to meeting with authors, getting free copies of books, and meeting other book-loving women.
2 years ago I decided to start playing Mahjong.
Playing Mahjong turned into teaching Mahjong. Which turned into monthly Mahjong nights. Which turned into Thursday morning Mahjong with my neighbors. Which has turned into a whole Mahjong playing community.
Then, about 18 months ago I started needlepointing.
I taught myself via a slew of TikToks and have never looked back. Needlepointing lead me to the SLC Stitch Club. Which lead me to a community of women that love to stitch, play mahjong, and host dinner parties.
All of these hobbies have made me HAPPY.
By being busier with hobbies (not just work and motherhood) I've learned to actually slow down.
It has brought me new amazing friends and clients.
It has brought me help with my mental health.
It has brought me FUN!!!
I know, we as women, struggle to sometimes put ourselves first. Especially when it's time spent doing “frivolous” things. But let me be the first to tell you (and shout from the rooftops):
START. THE. HOBBY.
There is so much joy and happiness and women waiting for you in those hobbies that will only enrich your life and make all aspects of your day that much better.
